Giampaola Minoli passed away suddenly at the age of 73, a historical and well-known figure in Cantù, who had been with TABU spa, alongside the Tagliabue family, for nearly 30 years. Proud of her Bolognese origins, she embodied at the same time the spirit of productive Brianza. Energetic and vivacious, she was always animated by a strong sense of duty and an unquenchable passion for the whole world of TABU, cosmopolitan, dynamic and of a thousand colors. An explosive mix of which she was proud.
A figure of those “mythical” ones that remain in the memory of the companies, supporting President Enrico Tagliabue and the whole family, crossroads of the company’s daily life. He followed with particular passion the Festival de Legno and all the initiatives of territorial relevance supported by TABU; among them, the parade of “wooden dresses” to which he devoted great energies for the Canturina preview in 2019, and which will be repeated during the next Design Week in Milan, on June 9, on the occasion of the inauguration in Brera of the new CASA TABU. It was his crowning achievement.
Declares Andrea Tagliabue, TABU Vice President, “Giampaola will be greatly missed; she was a trusted person for all of us, always ready to rush in to support people and the company.”
A final farewell will be held on May 7, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at the Shrine of Our Lady (cemetery), Cantù. The funeral chamber is set up at Sant’Anna Hospital (San Fermo della Battaglia) until 1 p.m. May 7, 2022.

Under the scientific direction of Professor Mario Bisson and Professor Cristina Boeri, and with the collaboration of FederlegnoArredo’s Assopannelli, this new training product aims to train professionals capable of handling all the theoretical, technical and practical aspects related to color, materials and finishes as well as the emotional identitỳ of surfaces, understood as a privileged “place” of experiential interactions, research, experimentation and anticipation of aesthetic and socio-cultural trends.
The master’s program, managed by POLI.design, can count on the support of important partner companies operating in the world of design, including Abet Laminati, ALPI, Fantoni, Saib, Mauro Saviola Group, Tabu, Lanta, and Cleaf.
Startup: October 2022 – Website: Sensorial Surface Design
Milan, May 31, 2022 – The first edition of ” Sensorial Surface Design – Color, Material and Finish design for interiors and furniture”, the new Master of Politecnico di Milano, managed by POLI.design and carried out in collaboration with Assopannelli of FederlegnoArredo , which aims to train professionals able to design and manage the perceptual, sensory, emotional and functional implications of surfaces, with particular reference to the interiors and furniture sphere, as well as CMF design experts capable of analyzing trends and transformations to respond to the new needs of production sectors and markets.
Politecnico university training and close connection with corporate and agency realities: are among the strengths of the master’s degree, which boasts the scientific direction of Mario Bisson, associate professor at the Department of Design of the Politecnico di Milano, scientific director of the Color Laboratory of the Department of Design, promoter and co-founder of the Interdepartmental Laboratory of the Politecnico di Milano EDME, and Cristina Boeri, Architect, PhD, contract professor of Color and Perception at the School of Design of the Politecnico di Milano, and among the founders and current president of the Color placemaking Association, as well as a strong presence of institutions and companies. In fact, in addition to the presence of Assopanelli – Federlegno, the master’s technical partners include leading companies in the sector such as Abet Laminati, ALPI, Fantoni, Saib, Mauro Saviola Group, Tabu, Lanta, and Cleaf.
“The master’s degree was created in response to the growing demand from companies and the market for professional figures capable of working on the perceptual, sensory and emotional aspects of design. The perceptual component is what the artifact has as a tool to interface with the world of human senses, companies over the years have considered this component an essential parameter to make a product successful in the market,” – said Mario Bisson, Scientific Director of the Master.
“The educational contents of this Master’s program are deeply linked to Italian design culture and the innovative experiences gained in the field of primary design and CMF design.” -continues Cristina Boeri, Co-Director of the Mater- “The aim of the Master’s program is to train professionals capable of designing the sensory and emotional experience we establish with objects and environments and thus able to read, interpret and anticipate cultural and social changes in order to guide innovation .”
“It is essential to identify the new professional figures needed for the growth of our Made in Italy design,” comments FederlegnoArredo President Claudio Feltrin – responding to the needs of a market increasingly oriented not only to technical aspects related to color, materials and finishes, but also to intangible values connected to the sensory experience and the perception of value of a product. This innovative teaching path fits into the strategic collaboration between POLI.design and the wood-furniture supply chain, in a virtuous exchange between design and training.”
The didactics of the Master’s program Sensorial Surface Design, delivered in English, is based on a mix of theoretical lectures, testimonials and technical insights, correlated with̀ practical activities and workshops that will be held in a blended (online and in-presence) mode. The introductory and specialized lectures will be given by a highly qualified faculty composed of Politecnico di Milano professors, professionals and industry experts coming from the business world. These will be complemented by hands-on activities and workshops to acquire project and management skills as well as participation in project work conducted in small teams that will require the production of concrete projects from briefs created with the support of businesses, professionals and industry experts.
The Master’s program is open to a maximum of 25 candidates with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in design, engineering, architecture. For the purpose of admission, the profile of candidates not belonging to the above categories maỳ be evaluated by the management. For foreign candidates, equivalent degrees in the respective study systems will be considered valid
Start: October 2022 – Registration deadline: August (foreign students) September (Italian students)
Cost: The cost of the Master’s program is € 12,000, broken down as follows: € 11,500 cost of the Master’s program € 500 application fee at the Politecnico di Milano.

To celebrate the renewal of the partnership with the Club, TABU held a big party for all its employees.
On Monday, Oct. 21, a delegation from Acqua S.Bernardo Cantù, consisting of captain Filippo Baldi Rossi, Grant Basile and Riccardo Moraschini, visited the headquarters of the Cantù-based company, which as of this year also appears with its logo on the club’s official game uniforms.
To celebrate the renewed partnership with the club and the move to Gold Sponsor, TABU wanted to give a Cantù Basketball T-shirt to each of its nearly 200 employees for the occasion, who then posed for a photo together with the three players.
Before concluding the visit, the white-blue delegation had the opportunity to get a close look at the company’s entire production cycle thanks to an interesting tour led by owners Andrea and Daniela Tagliabue, who took them through the different stages of processing TABU products.

Claudio Imperatori, a historical face in the Pesaro and Marche furniture and furnishings industrial district, has passed away.
Claudio Imperatori passed away tonight at the age of 69. A man well known in Montecchio and in the Pesaro area for his three-generation activity in the Marche furniture and furnishings industrial district. He leaves behind his wife Donatella, son Ivan, beloved granddaughter Stella, brother Alessandro and a close-knit family.Since the 1970s the Imperatori family have been trusted men and expert representatives of Tabu Spa, Canturese excellence in the world of wood dyeing and manufacturer of semi-finished products for the furniture industry: natural dyed and multilaminar veneers, wood surfaces for furniture and interior projects. Beginning with their father Emilio and continuing with brothers Claudio and Alessandro, the Imperatori family has accompanied TABU since its inception in 1963, handing down the trade from father to son; Ivan Imperatori, Claudio’s son, has already been active in the company for years.Claudio Imperatori is remembered by all who knew him as a hard worker, dedicated, capable of great sacrifice, loyal and reliable. A loving family man and a grandfather very attached to his little granddaughter. “Tabu’s large family is experiencing a day of great sorrow today and we are all deeply shaken,” states President Enrico Tagliabue. “We are all united in this loss of a man with a rare sense of duty and work, with great humanity and a deep sense of friendship. He will be greatly missed,” says Andrea Tagliabue, Vice President of Tabu.
Cantù, October 19, 2023

Our natural dyed and multilaminar veneers have sustainability in their DNA.
Proud to participate in Assopannelli’s initiative, “Sustainable Inside.” Our veneers are born to respect the environment and produced in a way that minimizes as much as possible the impact on the territory, from the beginning to the end of the supply chain.
And when they take shape in design objects, their eco-friendly soul becomes part of an all-Italian excellence.

At the upcoming Sicam 2023 TABU will reintroduce the “Biodiversity” collection and the new 2023 “Muta” collection.
An update of the celebrated Red Box 555, first launched in 2018, the largest collection of laminar and multilaminar veneers in the world, will also be presented.
BIODIVERSITY:
Industrial marquetry that enhances biodiversity through the optimal reuse of noble wood species (up to 12 different species such as Lati, Walnut, Tanganyika, Maple frisé, Sucupira, Ash, Eucalyptus, Larch, Perpero, Bolivar, Oak, Pine, Mahogany, Erable), freely juxtaposed with each other in marked horizontal bands, creating an unprecedented effect that is never the same.
Biodiversity’s circularity is based on the following features:
– “Design for Remanufacturing,” meaning the restoration of a product such that it has performance characteristics similar to that of a new product;
– Use of Secondary Raw Materials: the use of materials recovered within other internal production processes;
– Valorization of waste within the production process.
MUTA:
An acronym from MU for “mutable” and TA for “Tabu,” this word distinguishes all TABU codes that are offered in already spliced sheets, minimizing waste. The noble and valuable raw material, even in the smallest cuts, is enhanced through these sheets. 5 wood species, Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus Frisé, Oak, Tay, Lati.
The masterful splicing technique enhances the wood and its grain, optimizing the use of wood species, mutating and reinventing their appearance in new contemporary patterns.

“ILLIMITE”
Limit. A “neologism” to try to tell this time of forks and ridges, so full of challenges but also of great opportunities. A word-currency, with two sides, one positive, the other negative. A term that generates distinctions and separations : right? Wrong? An invitation to reinterpret the old and explore the new : where are we and where could we go, together? A word-window that solicits new gazes and changes of perspective : decentering to know and recognize? Boundary that orders, protects and separates, that demarcates an inside and an outside, a before and an after. Or a porous threshold, to be crossed to regenerate the future?
Limit or Illimit? Or, perhaps, within contemporary complexity, will it only be the ability to combine in ever unstable balances the limit and the unlimited that will save us?
TABU is Exploratory Partner of the next edition of TEDxLakeComo XIII to be held on November 11 and 12 at Villa Erba in Cernobbio. Men and women who think, research, undertake, innovate, create, and experiment with ideas worth sharing will return to the Villa Erba stage. Accompanied on a journey of inspiration, TABU contributes its part, to take a step forward together in the never-ending quest for a slightly better world.

On 27th June 2023, at Casa TABU in Milan, an aperitif will be held to raise funds for the Red Cross. A convivial evening dedicated to flooded Romagna, with cappelletti, piadina, jazz music, and a theatrical intervention by Pino Petruzzelli.
Evening by invitation.

On June 27, 2023, at Casa TABU – Via Melone 2 in Milan, at 7:30 p.m., the charity event “Tìn bòta!” will be held, an event with apericena dedicated to raising funds for flooded Romagna. The funds raised will in fact be donated entirely to the Red Cross of Ravenna.
“Tìn bòta!” is an expression that means “Hang in there, hang in there,” and has in recent months become an affectionate and encouraging expression to all the people of Romagna affected by the floods.
In fact, TABU has a presence in the Lombardy regional territory and beyond, which is why, with the collaboration of the Red Cross, TABU has organized an apericena with jazz music and typical products from Romagna, in a convivial evening in which everyone will be able to make his or her very valuable contribution.
A theatrical intervention in the form of a monologue by Pino Petruzzelli, actor and playwright, founder of the Genoa-based Centro Teatro Ipotesi, will also take place.
The event will take place in the Brera district, the heart of design, where Tabu has since 2022 created Casa Tabu, a place that hosts artistic events of various kinds, as well as being a showroom for the products of the historic Cantur-based company.

The Impossible Encounter dreamed of by dozens of generations of “25 readers,” who are finally face-to-face with the characters shaped by Alessandro Manzoni in the masterpiece-novel “I Promessi Sposi,” is made possible by the expressiveness of wood: the 12 faces of the characters, as they would appear to us today, take on substance in the material of inlaid wood.
The digital prints of the faces are made on the surface of fine inlays, one-of-a-kind pieces specially designed and created by the hands of master inlayer Mario Moriggi: fine TABU woods, of certified forestry origin and dyed with state-of-the-art technology, such as Eucalyptus Frisé, Oak, Tay, Maple Frisé, Ash Burl, Birch, Larch, and multilaminar veneers are used.
It creates a highly refined “play” of overlapping planes readable in transparency, almost Leonardesque: the faces sinking into the wood and the three-dimensional design of the wood emerging through the faces.

PRESENTATION
The conference aims to provide an indispensable and objective basis of wood knowledge, expressly designed for the designer.
After brief historical background on the birth of wood dyeing technology in Brianza and the optimization of the use of wood in the furniture industry, the following will be analyzed: the advantages for the design of natural dyed veneer (color uniformity and repeatability of the structure), the characteristics of fine woods, the process from natural to natural dyed veneer, wood dyeing and the infinite possible colors, the characteristics of multilaminar veneer, sustainability and the future of forests (FSC® forest certification). A “virtual tour” will also allow visitors to observe the entire production cycle and discover the different areas of veneer application. The latest generation of decorative surfaces based on dyeing technology will be examined in detail, and finally the internal call for entries in the IDEASxWOOD Contest, dedicated to the design of wood surfaces and furniture, will be explained.
PRESENTATION OF TABU AND THE IDEASXWOOD CONTEST
Founded in Cantù (CO) in 1927, TABU SpA represents Italian excellence in wood dyeing and produces natural dyed and multilaminar veneers for Interior Design and Architecture, as well as the latest generation of decorative wood surfaces based on dyeing technology (industrial inlays, three-dimensional surfaces, state-of-the-art boiserie and flooring). The 555.18 Collection, the world’s largest collection of natural dyed and multilaminar veneers, is Honorable Mention at the 2020 Compasso d’Oro.

Historic achievement for all of us: the award was recognized because of business research and nearly one hundred years of technological expertise applied to wood.
The Compasso d’Oro is the highest award for Italian design. Biennial, with a national and international jury of more than 200 people, the 2020 edition honored excellence that went into production in 2018 and 2019; nearly 1,800 projects were nominated. On September 9, 18 Compassi d’Oro and 38 Honorable Mentions were awarded at the ADI headquarters in Milan.
These include TABU’s prodigious 555.18 collection, which is the world’s largest collection of natural dyed and multilaminar veneers for interior design and architecture.
TABU was the only “supply chain” company, presenting a collection of semi-finished wood products, to win an award in the Compasso d’Oro ceremony.
Alongside TABU, companies such as Foscarini, Boffi| DePadova, Antonio Lupi Design, MV Agusta Motor, Fantoni, Piaggio, and Bticino were honored. Among the Compassi d’Oro: Flos, Zanotta, Ferrari, Momodesign, Brembo, Enel, Gallerie degli Uffizi, Flou.
From now on, the 555.18 Collection will become part of the permanent Compasso d’Oro Collection at the headquarters of the Industrial Design Association at 7 Via Ceresio in Milan.
Established in 1954, the ADI Compasso d’Oro Award is the oldest but above all the most authoritative world design award. The brainchild of Gio Ponti, it was organized for years by the La Rinascente department store in order to highlight the value and quality of Italian design products then in their infancy. It was later donated to ADI, which has been in charge of its organization since 1958, overseeing its impartiality and integrity. The nearly three hundred projects awarded in more than fifty years of the award’s life, together with the nearly two thousand selected with an Honorable Mention, are collected and preserved in the Historical Collection of the ADI Compasso d’Oro Award, the management of which has been entrusted to the ADI Foundation, established for the purpose by ADI in 2001.
The Compasso d’Oro prize is awarded on the basis of a pre-selection carried out by ADI’s Permanent Design Observatory, which is made up of a committee of experts, designers, critics, historians, specialized journalists, ADI members or outsiders, all of whom are continuously engaged in collecting, year after year, information and evaluating and selecting the best products, which are then published in the ADI Design Index annuals.
In an initiative that is unprecedented in the field of international design, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage-Regional Superintendence for Lombardy, by Decree of April 22, 2004, declared the Historical Collection of the ADI Compasso d’Oro Award to be of “exceptional artistic and historical interest,” consequently including it in the national heritage.

ReThinking the Future – Anthology One
ReThinking the Future – Anthology One Collection is faithful to our vocation of avant-garde: it is hinged to our paradigm of Innovation of the product and Circularity, understood as efficiency in the use or rational and appropriate reuse of all resources during all phases of the production cycle. Simultaneously the newly rediscovered natural dyed veneers enhanced in their biodiversity, the latest-generation multilaminar wood veneers, created by an increasing optimal use of the noble raw material, the industrial inlays (Graffiti Collection) find their peculiarity in the powerful “musical score”.

Starting next June 5, the ReThinking the Future – Anthology One Collection will be online : true to our innate vocation of being avant-garde and a mirror of the present, it is hinged on our paradigm of Product Innovation and Circularity, understood as efficiency not only in energy choices, but also in the rational and appropriate use or reuse of all resources during all phases of the production cycle.
This vision leads us to a judicious enhancement and respect for the biodiversity at our disposal; we optimize the use of our noble raw material, chosen only from FSC© certified forests, and minimize environmental impact.
The birth of this collection takes place during the world crisis triggered by the pandemic, tragic for its impact on populations, but cathartic for the way of thinking about the future: we have been projected and repositioned in a new dimension, we know that we will no longer be the same and we are looking for our new identity, as individuals, as small and large communities, as companies, as institutions. ReThinking The Future expresses this awareness through the study and unveiling of new potentials of wood: words and concepts such as circularity, ecodesign, respect for Nature, have gained new potential and new dynamism.
The TABU Rethinking the Future – Anthology One Collection shines with its “polyphonic” soul. A powerful score in which natural dyed veneers that are revalued and enhanced in their biodiversity, the latest generation of multilaminar wood veneers, born from an increasingly optimal use of the noble raw material, industrial inlays (Graffiti Collection) and wooden surfaces destined for Skeens Tabu Boiserie find simultaneous expression.

TABU presents SKEENS: a new vision of wood paneling, the total redesign of wooden surfaces to cover walls with almost zero thickness.
Lightweight, pre-painted sheets of wood made with a special system that allows this new solution to be applied directly to walls, doors, siding and possibly panels-a true technological breakthrough that enhances the value of wood, a noble and living material.
TABU deliberately chose only FSC® certified and sustainable wood for this collection, interpreting the trendy colors typical of contemporary design from which it draws its inspiration: hence the choice of natural dyed wood species such as Bolivar, Eucalyptus, Ash, Larch, Walnut, Oak and Lime, wood species of European or North American origin.

He is Jiehao Su, born in 1988 in China and living in the U.S., the photographer who won the second edition of the Gabriele Basilico International Architecture and Landscape Photography Prize: The Foundation of the Milan Order of Architects has dedicated an exhibition, in the midst of the 2019 Furniture Fair, at its headquarters in Via Solferino in Milan.
TABU collaborated on the exhibition project: natural dyed, certified and sustainable veneers from Bolivar (red and brown) framed the photographs on display.
“Jiehao Su’s work dedicated to the Chinese landscape (Borderlands, 2012-2015),” the Jury commented, “is a delicate and intimate investigation of territories, people, animals, and details of the environment related to his personal history. Sense of belonging, loneliness, search for identity are reflected in sweet and sentiment-laden images, yet devoid of rhetoric, offered in a spontaneous and harmonious narrative. On this basis Jiehao Su intends to build his new work, dedicated to the city of Beijing, between past and future, reality and imagination.”
