The Compasso d’Oro Honourable Mention 2020 was awarded to 555 Collection

The Compasso d’Oro Honourable Mention was awarded to TABU SPA Cantù
Historical result for TABU and the productive district of Cantù, the prize was awarded thanks to business research and almost ninety years of technologic competences applied to wood.
The Compasso d’Oro is the very top prize to the Italian design. Biennial, with a national and international jury composed of more than 200 people, the 2020 edition rewarded the manufacturing excellences in 2018 and 2019; almost 1.800 designs were nominated. On 9th September, 18 Compasso d’Oro and 38 Honourable Mentions were assigned at the Milan ADI headquarters.
Among these, the prodigious TABU 555.18 collection, the largest collection in the world of natural dyed and multilaminar wood veneers for furniture and interior design.
Established in Cantù in 1927 by the Tagliabue family, an almost centenarian company, TABU is led by the President Enrico Tagliabue and operates all over the world; it has been keeping for three generations the art of dyeing wood according to inimitable quality standards. Technological research, innovation, certified raw material in full respect for the forests: TABU is still an engine for the furniture industry.
TABU was the unique “chain” company, by presenting a collection of semi-finished wood products, to conquer recognition during the Compasso d’Oro ceremony.
Besides TABU, other companies such as Foscarini, Boffi| DePadova, Antonio Lupi Design, MV Agusta Motor, Fantoni, Piaggio, Bticino received awards. Among the Compasso d’Oro Awards: Flos, Zanotta, Ferrari, Momodesign, Brembo, Enel, Gallerie degli Uffizi, Flou.

From this moment, the 555.18 Collection join the permanent Collection of the Compasso d’Oro at the Headquarters of the Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (Industrial Design Association) Via Ceresio 7 Milan.

________________________________________

Established in 1954, the Compasso d’Oro ADI Award is the oldest, but above all, the most authoritative world design award. Started from Gio Ponti’s idea, it was organized by ‘Rinascente’ department stores for years, in order to highlight the value and quality of Italian design products at the time. Subsequently, it was donated to the ADI, which from 1958 onward took care of the organization, presiding over its impartiality and its integrity. Nearly three hundred projects have been awarded over fifty years, together with another almost two thousand selected with an Honorable Mention, all of which are collected and kept under the jurisdiction of the Historical Collection of the Compasso d’Oro ADI Award, whose management has been entrusted to the ADI Foundation and established for this purpose by ADI in 2001.

The Compasso d’Oro is awarded on the basis of a pre-selection made by the Permanent Design Observatory of ADI, consisting of a commission of experts, designers, critics, historians, specialized journalists, members of ADI or external to it, all are continuously committed to gathering information year after year and evaluating and selecting the best products which are lately published in the ADI Design Index yearbooks.

In a Decree of 22 April 2004, an initiative without precedence in the sector of international design, the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Regional Office for Lombardy, declared that the ADI Historical Collection of the Compasso d’Oro Award is “of exceptional artistic and historical interest” and added it to the national heritage.
